Back to what to do
Herðubíó is home to weekly screenings of Hollywood’s latest and cinema’s greatest movies – and every Sunday is kid’s day at 15:00!
Also, did you know Herðubíó is the only cinema in the entire East of Iceland?!
Here’s a little background on how Herðubíó came to be through Seydisfjordur’s long-standing history with film screenings and community building:
In 1923, the Herðubreið group was formed with a vision to build a meeting house for Seyðisfjörður. In 1930, they acquired an old house to screen films (Meyjarskemmu – FAS) and fundraise for the community center. Twenty-five years later, Herðubreið was officially established. The construction of the community center began in 1946 and was designed by Einar Erlendsson with interiors designed by Gísli Halldórsson. The house was unveiled on December 16th, 1956.
The cinema has now moved into the digital age, check our schedule to see what exciting films we will screen for you next!
